Places to Tour in the Fajardo Area
The Fajardo area is blessed with many places to visit and we can guarantee that you will not be
bored while you reside at Passion Fruit Bed & Breakfast. Below are some of the places you might
want to visit during your stay with us. We are sure that several of these attractions will pique
your interest.
Reserva Natural Las Cabezas de San Juan
Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve is one of the most unique reserves in Puerto Rico.
Of the seven ecosystems in Puerto Rico, six are represented here. Tours are given from Wednesday
through Sunday by reservation only. You will learn a lot about the area and can enjoy the spectacular
views from its observation deck. From there, you can see the Bioluminescent Lagoon, Icacos, and other
spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. And off in the distance the mountains of El Yunque will call
you away from our beautiful seaside village.
Bioluminescent Lagoon
The Bioluminescent Lagoon is a must-see. It is the most spectacular natural phenomena in the area.
Laguna Grande is one of the three areas in Puerto Rico were bioluminescence is visible year round
in the waters at night. The most popular way to view these waters that glow is by kayak. We are
associated with a reputable kayak company that offers trips from Las Croabas Park. The park is less
than a mile from our guest house and easy to find.
Seven Seas Beach
Is sunbathing on a beach more to your liking? Seven Seas Beach is just a ten minute walk form our B & B.
There is a minimal charge for parking if you take your car. The beaches here are well maintained and
are very popular with the locals on the major holidays of the year. A new bathhouse has been
recently built and there are places to rinse off with fresh water after your swim in the ocean.
Icacos
The island of Icacos is just off the coast about a mile. Local fisherman and boat owners will
transport you to Icacos so that you can spend a day on the beach. They disembark from the pier in
Las Croabas Park. There is good snorkeling around the island, the best is off the western shore.
The white sandy beaches here are very pleasant. From the beach the waters get deep very quickly and
caution should be taken.
Playa Colorá and Playa Convento

So the hiker in you would rather get away from the beach crowds. Playa Colorá (Red Beach) and Playa
Convento (Convent Beach) are just the places for you. In about forty-five minutes you can walk to
either of these more primitive beaches. On a busy holiday Seven Seas Beach will be crowded with several
thousand people. However, with just a little effort you can be to either of these beaches where only a few
will venture. And the scenery here, especially at Playa Colorá, is breathtaking. Make sure to take your
camera.
Luquillo Beach
Luquillo Beach is a short drive away-about ten miles. It again is a very popular beach with the local people.
There is a large parking area and much space to spread out and relax on its manicured grounds. The area
is maintained by the Compañía Nacionales de Puerto Rico. Again there is a minimal charge for parking.
El Conquistador Casino
Put a little gambling into your nightlife with an evening at the local Casino, which is located in the
El Conquistador Hotel. This casino boasts a unique "Casablanca" Spanish theme with over 170 table
gaming positions and over 200 slot machines. There are several Caribbean stud poker tables, five roulette
tables, three craps tables, and a dozen blackjack tables where you can try your luck.
Culebra and Vieques
The islands of Culebra and Vieques, to the east of the main island of Puerto Rico, are beautiful and scenic.
A ferry to either of these islands departs from the town of Puerto Real, which is just a few miles from Las
Croabas. Culebra boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Flamenco Beach is a fabulous place
to spend the day. A tour of the fort on the Island of Vieques makes for an interesting day trip and it too
has some wonderful beaches. However, on Vieques, you will need a vehicle, as the beaches are remote and
public transportation is not readily accessible to them.
Snorkeling Trips
Several companies offer snorkeling trips that leave the Fajardo area. We can recommend these companies
upon your arrival. One of the most popular destinations is the coral reef just off the island of Icacos.
Fajardo River
Only the locals know about this beautiful place and they often go to the Fajardo River for a picnic.
Jumping into the cool waters of the Fajardo River and relaxing on its shore will be a way to absorb
some of the local color. It's easy to find and only a short dive away.
El Yunque
Take a break from the heat of the beaches with at trip to the Rainforest. The Caribbean National
Forest is the only rainforest in the US Forest Service system. Along route #191 there are many easily
accessible places to visit such as; Yokahu Tower, Yuquiyu Snack Shop and upon entering the forest El Portal,
The Visitors Center. For the more advance hiker there are many trails to explore. Hiking to the
top of El Yunque or to Mount Britton Tower will give you magnificent views of the rainforest and its canopy.
Be prepared for rain. After all, it is a rainforest and has acquired that name for an obvious reason.
The Swimming Pool at Passion Fruit
After all the touring has sapped your energy, rejuvenate in the privacy of our swimming pool.
Very few Bed and Breakfast offer this amenity. Here you can relax as you make plans for the next day's
adventure. Or just kick back and forget about everything, for a comfortable bed awaits you and, of course,
breakfast will be served as usual. But be prepared for the morning quiz. Who is the person that
